General Description
Lepreau River is a great beginner river that features a wide range of different classes of rapids. There are long periods of flat water between rapids with scenic views. The river has a remote feel to it but is never far from a nearby road. All rapids can be scouted easily with trails established for portages if need be. The river changes in difficulty with minimal gain in water levels, caution must be taken for levels above 1.5.
Hazards
Keyhole Falls
Use judgement when approaching keyhole falls midway through the trip. The drop that enters the gorge is extremely hazardous.
Lepreau falls
A drop that changes depending on the tide level.
Named Rapids
Keyhole falls
This part of the river narrows into a gorge style section of rapids. The gorge itself features two large drops immediately followed by rapids below it.
Highway Falls
This section of rapids features a “park and play” style of rapids. Below the rapids itself forms a surf wave when the gauge reaches from (0.9-1.2), Above that the wave disappears.
Lepreau Falls
Lepreau Falls features a large drop with a nearby government park that is great for pictures/parking.
Access
Put-In
Take exit 86 WB and turn right at the stop sign. Turn left at the T intersection onto Seven Mile Lake Rd. Drive until you cross a wooden bridge. Not far past the wooden bridge (700 Meters) the river touches the road, and the put is there.
Take outs
where the river touches the ocean at Lepreau Falls Park.
