General Information
The Main SW Miramichi from Deersdale to Boiestown is perhaps the most classic river trip in the province and has a long history among canoeists. Most people begin at half moon cove in Deersdale and end in Boiestown. There are many campsites along the river and most people choose to paddle it over 3 days. There are many sets of rapids on this section of river. Most of them are around class I and some experience on moving water / whitewater is recommended. Big Louie can have big standing waves which can swamp an open canoe depending on water level. Burnthill rapids is considered class II-III depending on water level and is the biggest rapid of the trip. Once past Falls Brook, the river widens and while there continues to be swifts and maybe class I, there are no more rapids of note.
