General Information
This river is typically done as a day trip but could also be done over 2 days. Begin by paddling across Little Lake to reach the outflow at the other end which joins the North Branch Oromocto river. The current is calm at first but gradually picks up speed. Just under 6km from the put-in is north branch falls (class II / II+ or so). There is a good portage trail on river right. After this rapid, the river continues with quick current and many swifts/class I, gradually getting calmer as you get closer to the village of Tracy. The usual take-out is at the bridge (Willow Ave). If continuing further down, the river is fairly calm until white rapids in Fredericton Junction which is a series of ledges which can easily swamp an open canoe at high water level. The take-out is at the bridge a short distance past white rapids.
